Environmental Standards

Environmental Compliance:

SEAM strives to reduce the environmental impact of e-waste in our community by responsibly reusing and recycling electronic equipment. We are committed to minimizing waste and preventing pollution through sound reuse methods, focused on continual improvement of environmental, quality, health and safety standards. SEAM maintains recycling standards in compliance with the highest worldwide  certifications for data security, environmental management systems and quality processes. See our full EQHSMS (Environment, Quality & Health and Safety Management System) Policy.

Downstream Vendor Qualification:

Our downstream partners must pass rigorous environmental audits before they can become an approved vendor. SEAM obtains an audit package from all prospective partners that details their processes, end-of-stream locations, insurance, licenses, permits, and regulator’s information. All downstream vendors are fully audited annually according to SEAM’s certification requirements. SEAM does not allow the export of Focus and “hazardous e-waste” materials to developing countries, either directly nor indirectly through downstream partners.

No Landfill Policy:

To ensure environmental responsibility and support customer sustainability requirements, SEAM enforces a strict No-Landfill policy with regard to end-of-life equipment. At SEAM, we go above and beyond the EPA supported waste management hierarchy. We believe reuse is the best form of recycling. Our ultimate goal is to reuse all materials that can be, and to return non-reusable materials back to their original element forms.

By recycling or reusing your electronics, precious metals can be recovered and resources like water and power that would have gone into the manufacturing of new equipment can be saved!

The materials that can be recovered from recycled e-waste require much less energy, water, and processing for reuse in new equipment than if mined, produced and processed from virgin sources.

Electronics currently represent just 2% of trash in American landfills, but account for 70% of overall toxic waste. Each year, 20 to 50 million metric tons of e-waste are disposed worldwide, with only 12.5% of e-waste being recycled.

Thank you for doing your part to make an impact!
