Certifications & Compliance Overview
The only certified provider in the Dakotas
When choosing a data destruction and electronics recycling partner, certifications matter. They prove that every process—from secure pickup and data sanitization to recycling and resale—meets strict industry, environmental, and security standards.
SEAM undergoes annual onsite audits, random unannounced inspections, and internal compliance checks to ensure your organization is always protected. Our certifications give you confidence that retired IT assets are handled securely, ethically, and responsibly.

Our Certifications
SEAM is the only certified IT Asset Disposition vendor in the Dakotas.
Independent certifications give you assurance that data destruction meets global security standards, environmental and worker protections are enforced, and every step is documented for regulators and auditors. They provide simple, trusted proof that nothing is overlooked.
NAID AAA Certification
Globally recognized as the benchmark for secure data destruction, NAID AAA requires both scheduled and surprise audits by accredited security professionals. Certification verifies compliance with all major data protection laws, helping organizations meet due diligence obligations.
R2v3 Certification
The Responsible Recycling Standard (R2) is the world’s most widely adopted standard for electronics reuse and recycling. Overseen by Sustainable Electronics Recycling International (SERI), it requires controls for Environmental protection, Worker health & safety, Secure data management and Responsible downstream vendor management.
e-Stewards Certification
e-Stewards is known as the most rigorous global standard for ethical e-waste recycling. It bans hazardous exports, landfilling, and the use of forced or child labor, while ensuring IT assets are managed responsibly throughout the chain of custody.

ISO 14001:2015
Sets the framework for a certified environmental management system, helping organizations minimize environmental impact and continually improve sustainability practices.

ISO 45001:2018
The global standard for occupational health & safety management systems, proving SEAM’s commitment to protecting workers and maintaining safe operations.

ISO 9001:2015
Defines the international standard for a quality management system. Certification demonstrates SEAM’s ability to consistently deliver services that meet customer and regulatory requirements.
In addition to our certifications, SEAM holds the necessary permits and licenses for regional compliance.
Clients may request copies of certifications, licenses, or audit summaries at any time.
Standards We Follow
Beyond our formal certifications, SEAM aligns practices with several widely recognized data security and compliance standards. While we are not certified under these frameworks, our processes are designed to follow their requirements, and we continually track updates to ensure our services meet or exceed industry expectations.
NIST SP 800-88
We follow the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) guidelines for media sanitization, ensuring all devices are cleared, purged, or destroyed according to proven, auditable methods.
U.S. DoD 5220.22-M
Although now considered outdated, the Department of Defense wiping method is still requested by some customers. SEAM’s processes meet and exceed DoD-level erasure, with modern NIST-aligned verification.
HIPAA/HITECH
We follow HIPAA and HITECH safeguards for handling PHI, using NIST 800-88 methods to securely wipe or destroy data-bearing devices. SEAM also executes Business Associate Agreements (BAAs) with healthcare clients for clear accountability and audit-ready compliance.
ISO 27001
We align our data handling policies with ISO 27001 principles (Information Security Management). While not certified to ISO 27001, we apply risk management and security controls across our operations.
CMMC
SEAM’s sanitization and destruction processes have been formally evaluated against the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) requirements. All activities follow NIST SP 800-88 Rev. 1, and SEAM has been determined to be CMMC Level 2 compliant for hard drive shredding and sanitization.

SOC 2
SEAM models practices on System and Organization Controls (SOC) 2 standards for data security, availability, and confidentiality. While not certified to SOC 2, we ensure customer information is handled with integrity.

CERCLA & SREA
CERCLA can hold businesses liable for cleanup costs if electronics are mishandled. The SREA safe harbor protects companies that use due diligence when choosing recyclers. SEAM provides documented processes and certified vendors to help reduce that liability.
LEED Certification Points
SEAM is not LEED certified, but our recycling services support businesses working toward LEED points. Proper diversion of electronics and universal waste contributes to sustainability goals and credit opportunities.
Industry Memberships & Partnerships
SEAM and its team members are active participants in professional and community organizations that promote data security, sustainability, safety, and industry collaboration. These memberships reflect our ongoing commitment to staying connected, informed, and accountable.
