Sioux Falls Area Businesses to Benefit from Enhanced Data Destruction and IT Asset Disposition Services

Bargain Bytes Rebrands to Become Secure Enterprise Asset Management, Inc. (SEAM)

SIOUX FALLS, S.D., 9 MARCH 2016 – Bargain Bytes, Inc. announced today the company has rebranded as Secure Enterprise Asset Management, Inc. or SEAM. Along with the rebrand, SEAM has launched new services targeted to mitigate enterprise risks while managing the disposal or reuse of their electronic equipment.

According to SEAM, the new name better reflects the services the company provides. In recent years, enterprise customers in Sioux Falls and the surrounding area began requesting more services for data destruction and chain-of-custody reporting to meet their growing legal, corporate and security compliance needs. As the only certified IT lifecycle management company in the Dakotas, Bargain Bytes saw an opportunity to provide a local resource to meet these demands. They began investing in new equipment, new procedures, and new software to offer a more complete solution in addition to the electronics recycling services they were known for.

“We soon realized the Bargain Bytes name no longer represented who we were,” says Jake Anderson, President of SEAM, “Companies today are looking for opportunities to protect their sensitive data, help them meet compliance requirements, and reduce their total cost of ownership. By rebranding and offering these new services, we are giving organizations confidence to responsibly serve their businesses, their customers and their communities.”

Improper disposal of technology assets can result in severe financial, legal and brand consequences. According to IBM and the Ponemon Institute, the per-record cost of a data breach reached $154 in 2015, up 12 percent from 2014 alone.

“Proper removal of data from hard drives requires more than just pressing delete,” advises Levi Hentges, SEAM’s Director of Business Development, “It’s our job to educate businesses on the current compliance and technology landscape to help them make sure their data is protected and they are meeting all of the requirements for their specific industry.”

In 2014, the National Association for Information Destruction (NAID) commissioned a study that found significant amounts of personal information left on recycled computers. An alarming 30 percent of secondhand equipment purchased contained sensitive data. Along with security risks, proper environmental management is also an important factor when managing IT assets. In 2015 a well-known internet service provider was fined almost $30 million after their e-waste practices were found to be ‘careless and unlawful’. SEAM provides a responsible option for businesses in the Sioux Falls area, who by law cannot dispose of certain electronics in the landfill.

“We undergo stringent internal and external audits to maintain compliance with the highest worldwide standards for data security, environmental management, health and safety, and quality processes. Using a reputable, certified company like SEAM lets organizations rest easy knowing they are protected,” added Hentges.

SEAM has also launched a new website that features an online customer portal for easy access to reports. Along with electronics recycling services, SEAM now offers on-site hard drive and media shredding, hard drive wiping, serial number and asset reporting, pickup and recovery services, and security collection carts. The retail store has retained the Bargain Bytes name and has moved completely online, allowing customers to shop affordable, refurbished equipment from the convenience of their homes.
